Redmond Oval Reconstruction
A major reconstruction project to Redmond Oval, Millthorpe will begin in January 2016. This page has been created to provide regular updates and information to keep the community and residents informed about progress and key milestones.
Blayney Shire Council will facilitate the delivery of the upgrade, working with contractors, Renworx Pty Ltd on behalf of the Redmond Oval Committee, which is part of the Millthorpe Village Committee.
The project is possible through funding provided to the Redmond Oval Committee who were successful in securing the $500,000 from the NSW Government, NSW ClubGRANTS program earlier this year.
The work includes levelling the surface of the sports and recreation ground to provide a suitable cross fall along with irrigation and drainage. The works are intended to improve the durability and sustainability of the surface to increase the usability year round.
In addition, construction of the new canteen and storage area at the Oval will also commence. Funding for this project has been provided by a partnership between Council funding and the Millthorpe Garden Ramble fundraising along with a $25,000 NSW Government, Sport and Recreation Grant.
Once completed later in 2016, it is envisaged to deliver tremendous benefits to the local school, sporting groups and wider regional community who regularly participate in activities at Redmond Oval.
Council is committed to working with Renworx to ensure disruption to the community is minimised while the major reconstruction takes place.
• In the interest of public safety, the Oval and its facilities will be unavailable to the public from
11 January 2016 for the duration of the construction activities.
• It is anticipated the Oval will be reopened to the public at the beginning of August 2016.
• Full activities including sporting events able to recommence in November 2016.
• Redmond Oval will be closed to public access from 11 January, 2016 when construction works begin.
• The community is reminded that alternate public toilets are available at the Millthorpe Railway Station located
at the Southern end of Pym Street.
• Recreational areas will continue to be available in the area at Mill Green, corner of Hawke and Victoria Streets,
• Information on other recreational areas within the Blayney Shire can be found here:
Redmond Oval Update – 29 August 2016
Wet weather delays construction works
Following the prolonged wet weather over the past 3 months including the wettest June on record, unfortunately, the works at Redmond Oval, Millthorpe have been delayed.
The wet weather has restricted progress and the ability to put heavy equipment on the ground. A number of projects need to be completed prior to the precinct being open to the public including minor earthworks on the field, erection of the picket fence and the construction of the new roadway.
Initially, it was planned to have the Oval ready for use by the public in August, however the rain delays have made this impossible. The key major event planned for Redmond Oval is the Millthorpe Markets on the first Sunday in December (December 4). Council will be working hard to have the Oval open and ready for the markets day. Council is ready to commence works as soon as weather permits.
Council remains committed to returning Redmond Oval and its facilities to the community at the earliest possible time, however this is dependent upon weather.
Other sports, including the upcoming cricket season will commence on the Oval in the new year.
Public Reserves Management Funds Grant awarded
The NSW State Government Public Reserves Management Funds grant
for $29,283 has been acknowledged and accepted by Council. This grant is to provide funding for a new bore to supply water to the new irrigation system for the oval. The system is currently sourcing most of its water from the potable water supply. It is hoped this new bore will provide a suitable quality of water and reduce the need to consume potable water. The first process is to engage a drilling contractor to construct the new bore. When this is complete, the bore will then be fitted out with new pumping and pipe work equipment along with a new power supply.
Other initiatives underway at the Oval
Rotunda works being prepared, currently awaiting removal of old kiosk and ceiling from rotunda, by licensed contractor. Once this is done Council staff will refurbish rotunda.
The new canteen fitout has been hampered by difficulties in obtaining suitable quotations from qualified contractors. Council is currently undertaking quotations for supply of equipment, and will project manage fitout by staff and individual suppliers.
Council regrets the inconvenience caused to the Millthorpe community and visitors, as it upgrades infrastructure across the Shire.
