Media Release - Aerial weed spraying program to get underway

Aerial spraying of weeds in the Upper Macquarie County Council local control area will start next week and it is not too late for some landholders to sign up to the program.

The Upper Macquarie County Council (UMCC) is the local control authority for weeds biosecurity threats (noxious weeds) in the Bathurst Regional Council, Blayney and Oberon Shire councils and the Lithgow City Council areas.

“After a very successful aerial spraying program in autumn, Upper Macquarie County Council is now following this up with the spring program starting next week” said Upper Macquarie County Council Chairman Cr Geoff Braddon OAM. “In the coming weeks landholders will likely see the Council spray contractor flying over the region.”

“This program is focussing principally on serrated tussock, one of the worst weeds in Australia, this weed spreads quickly and can cause significant losses in production capabilities on properties.”

“The UMCC spray program has been a wonderful program and one that has assisted many landholders in reducing the threat of these weeds” said Cr Braddon.

Landholders who would like more information about the spraying program or to register their interest in taking part should email
