Community invited to join the Garage Sale Trail

                             Saturday 20 October – Sunday 21 October

Online registrations are now open for the Garage Sale Trail! One big weekend from Saturday 20 – Sunday 21 October where local households, schools and community groups in Blayney and the surrounding area will join 400,000 Australians as part of the nation’s largest reuse community event.

Blayney Shire Mayor, Scott Ferguson welcomed the involvement of Council for the third consecutive year to put Blayney and its historic villages on the Garage Sale Trail map.
“The Garage Sale Trail gives our residents the opportunity to see good things reused and someone’s trash turned into someone’s treasure. It’s a great way for community groups, local schools and charities to fundraise, with past experience locally shows groups can make an average $735 - $3000 throughout the weekend,” Cr Ferguson said.
“Now with the Garage Sale Trail being held over the entire weekend, there will be double the fun. We are hoping to smash our previous record of having the most garage sales per head of population in our LGA by hosting even more garage sales over two big days,” he said.
The project is part of Council’s Waste Management strategy and Community Development program to encourage recycling, reuse and less landfill. Council also sees the program as a way to bring the community together to fundraise and encourage visitors to travel to the region.

Blayney Shire Council is proud to be involved in the program for three really good reasons:

1. Good for the Planet – Reusing stuff you don’t want reduces landfill
2. Good for the Community - $1 million plus has been raised for charity each year, and builds 350,000 community connections.
3. Good for You – Helps residents to declutter, make money and meet people in their area.

Over the past couple of years, Council has received excellent reports from individuals, community and church groups as well as groups and street sales who say it was a fun, feel-good experience, helped them to rehome some of their pre-loved, quality items and they even raised some unexpected extra money.

Cr Ferguson said: “To make the event a success in Blayney and its villages, we are asking community groups, local businesses and residents to get involved by hosting a sale or coming along on the Garage Sale Trail weekend to unearth some bargains and unique treasures.”
Anyone can register with over 13,000 plus garage sales and stalls expected to participate nationally to declutter excess stuff in their homes, connect with the local community and make some pocket money for themselves or their favourite cause.

This year, shoppers are expected to be able to discover over 2.8 million items listed for sale at garage sales all over the country
