Proposed Naming of Bridges

In recent years Council has constructed various new concrete bridges on the road network to replace old load limited timber bridges, which has helped lift impediments to freight transport across the Shire.

In recognition of the Centenary of The Great War (World War 1), the Blayney Shire Local Family and History Group was asked to provide recommendations on possible names of servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice, who lived close by, or in a nearby community, and died in the line of duty serving our country overseas.

The Blayney and Lyndhurst RSL Sub-branches then provided recommendation based upon the detailed research prepared.

At the September Council meeting, the Council considered a report on the proposal to name these bridges.

The report recommended that the proposed names be placed upon public exhibition. The recommendation only referred to a surname, however at the time of consideration, Council did not have full detail from the Geographical Names Board on the naming convention to commemorate fallen servicemen.

Out of respect for those local servicemen, Council proposes to name the bridges as follows, in recognition of their service.
