A warm welcome to winter with Winter Wonderland festivities planned across Blayney and Villages kicking off from Saturday 23 June from 12 noon with the Winter Solstice Festival on Gladstone Green, Newbridge hosted by the Newbridge Progress Association.

We invite you to embrace the change of season and join in special activities including local business offers, Christmas in July dinners, medieval street markets, business decorations, events and pop-up shopping.

Blayney Shire Mayor, Scott Ferguson said the aim of the Winter Wonderland event is to work with community groups and businesses to encourage people to buy local, attract visitors to the area and bring locals together to socialise, embrace the season and discover what Blayney Shire has on offer.

“Winter can be a magical time in the Blayney Shire. The weather may be a little cooler and we often get a dusting of snow but the warm welcome from our community hosting local events and activities shines through,” Councillor Ferguson said.

Winter Wonderland will kick off with the Newbridge Winter Solstice Street Festival on Saturday 23 June from 12 noon until late. Newbridge Progress Association’s Wendy Smith said the festival brings the community together for a day of medieval fun, magic, food and music.

“This is a family-friendly event with something for everyone including street markets, musicians, viking sword fights and Morris dancers to entertain the crowds. A community bonfire kicks off from 5pm on Gladstone Green at the Newbridge Hotel for the burning of the wicker man. It is tradition to throw a small wicker doll into the fire to cleanse the bad energy and start anew. We welcome everyone to come along in medieval dress-up or not and join in the fun this winter,” Mrs Smith said.

“We envisage this year will be no different and encourage people from around the region and beyond to discover the hidden gems in Blayney and our historic villages such as Millthorpe, Carcoar, Newbridge, Neville and Barry this winter,” Councillor Ferguson said.
