Media Release - Get ready for the National Garage Sale Trail

For one big weekend from Saturday 21 – Sunday 22 October, households, schools and community groups in Blayney and the surrounding area are set to break the $13.8 million record of items listed for sale as part of the Australia’s largest reuse community event, the Garage Sale Trail.

Blayney Shire Mayor Scott Ferguson welcomed the involvement of Council once again to put Blayney and its historic villages on the Garage Sale Trail map where shoppers can search from over 2.8 million items listed for sale at garage sales all over the country.

“The Garage Sale Trail gives our residents the opportunity to see good things reused and people to snap up a bargain. It’s a great way for community groups, local schools and charities to fundraise, with past experience locally showing groups can make an average $735 - $3000 on the day,” Cr Ferguson said.

“Last year, Blayney Shire LGA had the most garage sales per head of population within NSW over one big day. Now with the Garage Sale Trail being held over the entire weekend, there will be double the fun and we are hoping to smash this record by hosting even more garage sales over two big days.”

“Whether you are buying or selling, there is something everyone. After all, someone’s trash is another’s treasure,” Cr Ferguson said.

The project is part of Council’s Waste Management strategy and Community Development program to encourage recycling, reuse and less landfill. Council also sees the program as a way to bring the community together to fundraise and encourage visitors to travel to the region.

Cr Ferguson said: “To make the event a success in Blayney and its villages, we are asking community groups, local businesses and residents to get involved and join over 350,000 participants selling and shopping right across Australia on the weekend of October 21 and 22.”

Anyone can register with over 13,000 plus garage sales and stalls expected to participate nationally to declutter excess stuff in their homes, connect with the local community and make some pocket money for themselves or their favourite cause.

Sellers and shoppers can register for free! Start thinking about how you can get involved now!
