King George Oval Refurbishment Project

Status: In progress, tree removal in progress, external and internal fencing in progress.

Estimated Completion Date: May 2023

Funding: $1,095,000 - NSW Government Resources for Regions Round 8

Project Description:

The project involves the refurbishment of the King George Oval and Blayney Netball Centre precinct to improve the safety, amenity and capacity of Blayney’s premier sporting facility. The project will complement the investment that Council is currently making to provide change rooms for both male and female teams. It will link the facility with the Blayney shared path network, provide parking for larger sporting fixtures, provide a new scoreboard for all types of sports, new internal and external fencing and safety improvements to the existing grandstands.

The project involves the construction of new 2.5m wide shared paths, linking the existing shared paths on Carcoar Street and Stillingfleet Street, and new parking areas, including a visitor drop off area and new car spaces to service the existing facilities.  The combination of new shared paths and parking areas will allow for the proper / safe separation of pedestrians and vehicles, which has long been recognised as a major safety concern with the facility.

Perimeter fencing will be renewed allowing 24/7 access to the facility for the first time and new oval fencing, to replace the existing rusted fence.

Other improvements include a new scoreboard, with enhanced features and improved longevity, and safety improvements to the existing grandstands to comply with contemporary standards.

Draft Concept Plan - Council will be inviting representatives from the sporting clubs, schools and King George Oval users to a Working Group that will be involved in the consultation and assist Council to finalise the design and project delivery.
