Former Mayor Scott Ferguson honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Blayney Shire Council is proud to announce that former Mayor Scott Ferguson has been awarded the Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising more than 25 years of exceptional service, leadership and advocacy for the Blayney community and the wider local government sector.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is one of LGNSW’s highest honours. It acknowledges an outstanding and sustained contribution to the community a councillor or mayor represents, or to the sector more broadly. Nominees must demonstrate clear examples of leadership, innovation, policy advancement or legislative influence that have delivered measurable benefits.

Scott’s contribution to local government and community life spans well beyond his 12 years as Mayor and 25 years as a Councillor. His involvement across health, youth, sport, employment, regional collaboration and local infrastructure has delivered long-lasting social, economic and environmental benefits.

He has contributed to the Blayney Health Council, the Western Region Academy of Sport, Blayney Rotary, and Central West Group Apprentices/Skillset Limited, playing key roles in community services, youth development, local projects and supporting training and employment pathways.

As Mayor, Scott led Council through three Special Rate Variations, ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation while balancing the expectations of ratepayers. He also steered the community through the proposed 2016 local government merger process, ensuring Blayney Shire’s interests were clearly represented.

A strong advocate for regional collaboration, Scott has been a driving force behind strategic alliances across the Central West ensuring long term benefits for local ratepayers. He contributed to the Wellington, Blayney & Cabonne Alliance (WBC), CENTROC, the Central NSW Joint Organisation and served as a founding board member of Orange360.
