Want to be a Councillor?

The NSW Local Government Elections will be held for all Councils on Saturday 4 December 2021.  

The election is conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission, and information regarding nomination process, time frames, election material and if you are thinking of standing for Council, Candidate enquiries should be directed to: 
the NSW Electoral Commission candidate helpdesk telephone 1300 022 011, or 
email, or 
visit the NSW Electoral Commission website which has all the information you need if you are thinking of becoming a Councillor or if you are supporting a friend or family member who is nominating.

If you have not already viewed, there are steps and information, including recorded webinars specifically for candidates under the ‘Information for candidates and groups’ tab. 

The Office of Local Government has an information page and a number of resources for those thinking of becoming a Councillor. 

If you know a current Councillor; then please talk to them about your aspirations and they would be very glad to share their insights and advice.  If you would like to speak to the General Manager, then please call Council Offices Ph 6368 9632 to arrange a meeting that suits.

Lodgement of Nominations Open

Tuesday 27 July

Lodgement of postal vote applications open

Wednesday 4 August

12 noon Close of nominations and close of registration of candidates and groups.

Thursday 5 August

10am Conduct of Ballot paper draw

Monday 23 August

Pre poll voting period opens

Monday 30 August

close of postal vote applications

Saturday 4 September

Election Day

8am – 6pm
