Age of Residents

What does Blayney’s Age Distribution tell us?

Blayney’s age distribution is comparatively young with 22.2% of residents aged between 0-14 years compared to 18.9% in NSW. The average age at 38.7 years is on a par with NSW’s average of 38.1 years. This is supported by the region’s family composition which is dominated by couples with dependent children.

What opportunities does Blayney’s age distribution present?

Blayney has a large resident population which is demographically young and of working age. This suggests a potentially more productive economy with a large proportion of residents contributing to the local economy through employment and expenditure. With 36% of the resident population however leaving the region for work, opportunities exist for a range of businesses either looking to expand or provide new services to the region.

Aging population

According to the NSW Department of Planning projections, the proportion of older residents within the

Central West is likely to increase by approximately 10% over the next 20 years, which is consistent

with national trends of an ageing population.

The ageing population will increase demand for:

aged care > residential facilities > nursing homes > extensive health and community services.
