Emerging Sectors

What do emerging sectors tell us?

Emerging sectors help to identify potential opportunities for industry development and diversi!cation
in the future. By identifying emerging sectors it is possible to help influence and create a suitable environment to help such sectors to grow within a region.

What are Blayney’s emerging sectors?

While Blayney Shire has a strong background in heritage and agriculture, the area is emerging as an employment base with a trend towards mining with the Cadia and Ridegway Gold/Copper mines. The development of Blayney as a Cold Store Warehouse centre is gaining momentum, coupled with the road rail inter modal terminal.

Major employers in the region include: Nestle Purina, Cadia-Ridgeway Mine, Western White Linen and Blayney Foods.

Emerging sectors

Economic development opportunities identi!ed by Blayney Shire Council include:

  • Light industrial and specialist manufacturers eg. steel fabricators, concrete firms
  • Cold food storage
  • Livestock sale yards
  • Mining and associated services

Additional opportunities

Rail sidings - Businesses are increasing looking to have access to rail sidings allowing direct access to the railway network. This provides direct access to Sydney and export markets and present opportunities for businesses to grow and work more efficiently within the region.

Wine sector - There is an emerging vineyard industry ranging from a number of small specialist vineyards developed within the region to a 200 hectare vineyard with a large variety of red and white grapes.
