Resident Workforce by Industry & Occupation

What does resident workforce by industry and occupation tell us?

This data helps identify local workforce skills and the potential for skills development to not only provide new job opportunities for residents but also identify opportunities for the expansion of local businesses and the relocation of new businesses.

What does Blayney’s resident workforce by industry tell us?

Those sectors currently employing the most Blayney’s residents according to Census 2011 data are Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing followed by Health Care and Social Assistance and Mining. The industries highlighted in Table 3.0 below show increases in the numbers of resident workers within
those industries between 2006 and 2011 as follows:

What opportunities does Blayney’s Resident Employment by Industry present?

Some industry sectors are highly sensitive to the global marketplace such as Mining which can result in employment "fluctuations. Agriculture can be heavily impacted by favourable or unfavourable environmental factors also resulting in employment "fluctuations. The other sectors experiencing growth could indicate a general change in the diversity of the local economy. The increase in sectors classified as ‘Knowledge based’ such as Financial and Insurance Services can also result in a more affluent resident working population due to the comparatively higher salaries offered in this sector (see Table 5.0).

Opportunities present themselves to businesses within these high employing sectors looking to relocate as a pool of locally skilled residents is available. Those industries not experiencing an increase in job numbers still present opportunities to those businesses looking for particular skills and industry experience as it is possible that a pool exists of such workers who may be seeking such employment or looking to return to the sector should the opportunity arise. Those industries growing provide businesses with the benefits associated with ‘business clusters’ and an adaptable workforce.

What opportunities does Resident Workforce by Occupation data present?

The relatively equal distribution of occupations in Blayney suggests a diverse economy which is perhaps more stable than one with a more skewed range of occupations. It presents a number of opportunities such as developing a greater range of services and facilities for residents – either improving services/facilities available or introducing new ones to address any gaps in provision.

Other opportunities relate to the availability of a workforce that can ful!l all levels of staffing requirements for businesses looking to establish themselves in the region – from mangers to administrative staff for example.
