Reporting a found pet
If you have found someone’s pet or livestock, contact Council during business hours and provide details.
Rangers do not pick up stray pets after hours, you can ring the NSW Police: 6368 9599
- Microchipped and Registered animals, except livestock, are held for fourteen days and may be put up for adoption if unclaimed.
- Non-Microchipped Unregistered animals are also held for seven days and may be put up for adoption if unclaimed.
- Unclaimed livestock may be sold through an expression of interest process.

Claiming your animal from a Council animal shelter
When you collect your animal from Council, you:
- may need to pay fees to cover the time your animal has spent in the shelter
- will need to bring a form of identification to collect the animal.
- will need to microchip and register your cat or dog (if not already registered and microchipped)
- may be issued an infringement notice if the animal was found to be in breach of the Companion Animals Act 1998 No 87
Animals can only be released from the Council pound in business hours (fees to be paid at Council Administration Building).
Animal shelter fees: Contact Council regarding Fees and Charges prior to collection.
Caution: If you dog is impounded on multiple occasions Council may issue the appropriate penalty in relation to the dog escaping or being in a public place unattended.
