Help Shape the Youth Council Pilot Program
Blayney Shire Council is launching a Youth Council Pilot Program, and we’re looking for young people aged 14–24 who want to make a difference in their community.
This pilot is your opportunity to be part of something new. You won’t just join a Youth Council – you will help create it. As part of the program, you will work with other young people, Council staff and community leaders to design what a future Youth Council could look like for Blayney Shire.
What will you do as part of the pilot?
- Share your ideas and concerns directly with Council
- Learn how local government works and how decisions are made
- Build confidence and leadership skills
- Plan and deliver a small community project for Youth Week 2026
- Provide feedback on the pilot to help shape a Youth Council that works for young people
- Connect with mentors and community leaders in a supportive environment
Why is it a pilot?
This program is planned to run from August 2025 to Youth Week in April 2026, with monthly meetings. During this time, participants will test how a Youth Group can work in our community, explore different ideas, and help create a model that can grow into a long-term program for local young people.
Your input will directly influence how meetings are run, what activities are included, and how a Youth Council can best represent the voices of young people in Blayney Shire.
Why get involved?
- Participation can support scholarship and university applications
- Looks great on a resume, especially for school leavers
- Builds confidence, leadership and real-world skills
- Provides an opportunity to learn about council processes
- Helps young people connect with their community and contribute positively
