  • Australia Day 2024 Award Winners Announced - Blayney Shire Council hosted the 2024 Australia Day Awards at Heritage Park, Blayney. The day commenced with a free BBQ community breakfast, followed by the Citizenship and Awards Ceremony in the amphitheatre.
  • Australia Day Ambassador announced for 2025 - Our 2025 Australia Day Ambassador this year is Viv Kartsounis. Viv Kartsounis is a passionate changemaker and the founder of Shoes for Planet Earth, a charity that has transformed over 100,000 lives by providing sports shoes to people in need. Co-Founder & Co-Director of Day of Difference Foundation, Ron Delezio came to be publicly known after his daughter Sophie was involved in two catastrophic accidents in December 2003 and subsequently in May 2005.

  • Belgravia Leisure to manage CentrePoint Sport and Leisure Centre - Blayney Shire Council has announced Belgravia Leisure as the operating partner of CentrePoint Sport and Leisure Centre. With more than 30 years of experience in the leisure and recreation industry, Belgravia Leisure currently manages 230+ sport, leisure and tourism sites across Australia and New Zealand. Belgravia Leisure will take full control from 1 August 2024, with transition of the facility already under way with a key focus for Council, current provider and Belgravia Leisure being a seamless transition for the CentrePoint community.

  • Community Financial Assistance Program Round 2 – 2024/25 - Applications open for the second round under the 2024/25 Community Financial Assistance Program are open.
  • Council to Proceed with Special Rate Variation Application - Media Release 24 January 2024 - Blayney Shire Council at the ordinary council meeting held on the 23 January 2024 has resolved to submit an application for a Special Rate Variation (SRV) of 10% per annum for 3 consecutive years to the NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART). At the meeting, Council was presented with a Community Awareness and Engagement Report following the 35 days of community engagement over November – December 2023.
  • Council Update - Applications for the second round under the 2024/25 Community Financial Assistance Program are open. We seek to draw to the attention of the community, we are now seeking community nominations to join the following committees: 1. Blayney Shire Financial Assistance Program Committee Role: Undertake the assessment of applications received against the program guidelines. Assess applications and provide recommendations to Council for consideration. Review the recurrent annual Donations Schedule. Composition: Councillor Rebecca Scott (chair) and Councillor Karl Hutchings are the 2 Council appointed representatives. A minimum of 5 community members is sought. Time commitment: A minimum of 2 meetings per annum (additional as required). Meetings would on average go for approximately 1.5 hours (with approximately 60 mins of meeting preparation required before the meeting).
  • Councillor Reynolds elected as Blayney Shire Mayor - Councillor Bruce Reynolds has been elected Blayney Shire’s new Mayor for the next two years, and Councillor Rebecca Scott has been elected Deputy Mayor.
  • Countback Election - Blayney Shire Council 2025 - This countback election is required to fill one casual vacancy on Blayney Shire Council. The casual vacancy has occurred due to the resignation of one councillor Michelle Pryse Jones. After the 14 September 2024 ordinary election, Council voted at their first meeting to use Countback to fill any vacancies.
  • High Pedestrian Activity Area Blayney - From Monday 24 June, Transport for NSW will implement a High Pedestrian Activity Area, with a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h through a number of streets in the Blayney town centre. The new speed limit comes into effect on 24 June 2024 and this change will maintain a constant lower speed environment and improve safety for pedestrians.
  • IPART Endorses Blayney Shire Council’s Special Rate Variation Application - The NSW Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has completed their assessment of Blayney Shire Council’s special variation application and approved Council’s application for the proposed increase. Council’s application to IPART was submitted in January 2024 following community consultation on the SRV in November and December 2023 for a rate increase of 10% for 3 consecutive years (33.1% cumulative) to be applied to the general rate. Of the 9 Special Variation applications made by NSW Councils, the Tribunal has; approved 5 as submitted, approved a lower increase for 3 and declined one. See full media release attached.
  • Mayoral Media Release - As we look towards the upcoming local government elections in September, after careful consideration with my family, I have decided not to stand for re-election as a councillor and finish my time as mayor of Blayney Shire Council.

  • Over 30 business people turned out for the inaugural Blayney Shire Business Chamber event - Blayney Shire business people turned out in force for the inaugural activity of the newly-registered Blayney Shire Business Chamber. Your Blueprint for Business, funded by a NSW Small Business Month grant and auspiced by the Blayney Shire Council, featured guest speaker Danica Bunch sharing her insights on PR for small business.
  • Platform Arts Hub Blayney Welcomes New Management by Sidetrack Arts - Platform Arts Hub Blayney, housed within the renovated 1876 heritage-listed Blayney Railway Station, is thrilled to announce a new chapter under the coordination of Sidetrack Arts Inc (Sidetrack) with funding support from Blayney Shire Council. Sidetrack is a newly founded artist-run initiative, made up of local Blayney and Central West visual artists and musicians. With a shared commitment to fostering and celebrating regional artistic talent, Sidetrack aims to provide a creative community-based platforms for local and regional artists to develop and showcase their practice.
  • Proposed Road Closure - Proposed road closing under section 38B Roads ACT 1993. In pursuance of the provisions of the Roads Act 1993, notice is hereby given that Blayney Shire Council proposes to close the council public road listed in Schedule 1.

  • Reconnecting events branded a success - Last week a series of art workshops were held at the Platform Arts Hub hosted by Sidetrack Arts. These workshops were the final events which were 100% funded under the Reconnecting Regional NSW Community Event Program (RRNSW). This program announced by the NSW Government in March 2022 provided Blayney Shire Council with $239,641 specifically to host a series of community events.
