Major Contract awarded for Showground Project

Following an extensive tender process, Blayney Shire Council has proceeded to award the contract for construction of the Central West Equestrian and Livestock Centre shed at Blayney Showground to local Blayney business ICR Engineering.

The $1 million construction of the arena structure is the largest singular component of the $2.2 million project. The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2020 Blayney Show.

Blayney Shire Mayor, Scott Ferguson is very pleased after a vigorous tender process ICR was awarded the contract.

“The local company have a proven ability they are able to deliver on this significant project for our shire and the region.”

“The project itself will provide increased economic benefits for the shire and being able to award the contract to a local business is an additional bonus.”

ICR Engineering director Ian Reeks said “We are very pleased to be awarded this contract.” He also expressed how important it was that the project is able to give something else back to the community through local business.

The project is set to facilitate the growth of the number and range of activities held at the Blayney Showground. It is projected an additional 40 events will be hosted in the new multipurpose facility attracting over 1400 competitors, 2000 spectators and 15 000 day visitors. It is anticipated these events will increase overnight visitors from 100 to almost 6000 per year, driving visitor economy. Current events that are held at the showground will also benefit with a greater capacity to host more competitions in each event.

The project is funded by Restart NSW Regional Growth and Tourism Program, Federal Government’s Drought Communities Funding and NSW ClubGrants.
