Rebecca Ryan appointed CEO of Queanbeyan-Palerang

Media Release - Friday 25 March

Our very own General Manager of Blayney Shire Council, Rebecca Ryan, has been announced as the new CEO of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (QPRC).

Mayor of QPRC, Cr Kenrick Winchester has congratulated Rebecca on her appointment and said he, and his fellow councillors, were looking forward to working with her when she commences on 9 May 2022. The appointment comes after a nationwide recruitment process that attracted many high-quality applications. Three applicants were interviewed initially, with a final interview held with two candidates on 19 March.

Mrs Ryan said this day comes with mixed emotions.

“I am very proud to have been part of the Blayney Shire team of dedicated Councillors and professional staff committed to and care about the services and projects they deliver to the community.

“We have faced impending mergers, droughts, storm events and COVID pandemics in our stride without missing a beat. We are a respected partner to both State and Federal Governments delivering major capital infrastructure works that have benefitted our communities,” said Mrs Ryan.

Mayor Scott Ferguson believes Rebecca has successfully led the Shire with her passion and commitment to our community as General Manager over the past 7 and a half years.

Rebecca’s appointment to this new role is a huge achievement and reflects her development as a well-respected and admired General Manager,” he said.

“Rebecca leaves Blayney Shire Council in a great position as we continue to deliver a broad range of projects and services throughout our Shire.”

“There is absolutely no doubt that our community and Council will greatly miss Rebecca, but we wish her every success and happiness as she takes on her new role,” said Mayor Ferguson.

Recruitment for a new General Manager will commence after Council engage a suitable consultant to facilitate the process, after the April Council meeting.  In the meantime, an interim General Manager will be appointed to ensure that the many projects and services Council deliver to the community continue.

This is alongside an already busy time of year with Councillor workshops and training, the preparation of our Integrated Planning and Reporting documents, Planning Proposals, Mainstreet Masterplans and Operational Plan budget and the business as usual with projects such as Hobbys Yards Road, Carbine Road and King George Oval Changerooms.
